Trained and experienced in the Marie Clay foundation literacy intervention method, Reading Recovery.
Professional learning across a broad range of literacy approaches, spanning traditional, contemporary, and innovative models of literacy instruction.
Trained in InitiaLit and MultiLit explicit teaching approaches, with experience leading and coordinating professional learning for teaching staff.
Developed three sophisticated Literacy Architecture frameworks "Miss Y & Alphabet Community®", :Drystones Systems-Thinking" (Connected to native animals) and the "Miss Y Approach®" that draw upon the human experience and it's synergy with nature. These interdisciplinary knowledge, systems-thinking . are also pedagogical language frameworks linking to the science of reading. Melissa's commitment to bridging the gap is a life-long process.

Research

Melissa's research explored culturally enhanced ways for teaching literacy. Her research concluded that participants had undertaken subversive approaches in the teaching of literacy in addition to following the normal literacy routine and syllabus material.

Melissa had not shared own own teaching practices in her research, she Self-Published a book in 2023 "Kinship Ways For Teaching foundational Literacy" that highlights Melissa' thinking and Ways of doings. She shares her own teaching methods in her online courses and books. You will see Melissa' thinking.
